DIY Beachy Waves Hair Spray

During one of my recent Pinterest binges I came across a DIY hair spray for beachy waves.
This is something I covet on the regular.
Beach waves.
I have hit-or-miss success with curling my hair (curling iron, straightener and my sister's 'magic wand' as I call it) so I was eager to try this out and see if it worked.
Especially since I had thrown out my store bought bottle of a similar product when the spray part stopped working.
Oops.
Anyway, this spray is incredibly easy to make and it works fairy well without giving your hair that hard crunchy texture .
And it may likely cost you nothing as there's a fair chance you've already got the majority of the ingredients required.

Mix the following together:
  • 1 cup hot tea (chamomile tea if you want to lighten your hair, black tea if you want to darken it or just 1 cup hot water if you don't want to have to store this in the fridge)
  • 2 tbsp Epsom salts (add more if you want more texture - I might add a 3rd tbsp in to mine)
  • 1/2 tsp conditioner (or almond or jojoba oil if you'd rather)
  • 1 tsp aloe vera
  • 1 tsp lemon juice & 1 tsp vodka (only if you want to risk lightening your hair and don't mind storing your spray in the fridge, otherwise skip this ingredient) or 1 tsp essential oil (without risk of lightening your hair)
  • 1/2 tsp Himalayan or sea salts (this will add some stiffness to your hair. I didn't have either on hand so I left this out)

Mix it all up as best as you can and transfer it into a 10 oz spray bottle.
I dumped out an old Victoria's Secret body spray that I hadn't used in years and used that.
Shake it (vigorously) to really mix in the Epsom salts.
Spray into damp hair and then start scrunching your hair.
I did a combination of scrunching, twirling sections, and wrapping my hair into a loose bun.

It gave me decent beach waves for the evening and I was satisfied enough to use this spray again & probably to make another mix once this one runs out.

Time for a Change

In the last few months or so I had become increasingly bored with my look.
I toyed with the idea of becoming a brunette, but I did that once and ended up pining for my blonde days.

Then one night at work I started eyeing some pictures of wavy bobs and I started to wonder...

It's been about 5 years since I really cut my hair.
I've gone for regular trims but today I made an appointment and took the plunge before I could talk myself out of it

More photos to come!

The #SundayFunday (#superhappyfunmagictime) Wedding

On the Sunday of the August long weekend, John and I went to a beautiful wedding to watch two friends say "I do" and then to party the night away with them.

John was the best man and had spent the week leading up to the big day worrying about his speech and wanting to get it just right.

Me, I was busy trying to find a hair-do.

I amalgamated a few that I found on pinterest and did a test run...

...Which went too successfully that I figured I would never be able to recreate it.
The night before I set my hair in 3 french braids to make sure my hair would be as voluminous as I could make it without teasing it beyond recognition.
The effect made it look even cooler.

I did a reverse french braid starting at the top right side of my head and moving down to the bottom left. A reverse french braid is what I call it when you braid the hair under instead of over the other strands.
When I ran out of hair to add to the braid I tied it into a ponytail. Then I used a sock bun to keep the hair off of my neck and out of my face.
Essential for dancing at summer weddings.

Perhaps the ease with which my hair went up was a good omen because the wedding was absolutely beautiful.
The venue was great, the bride looked stunning and the groom very handsome. The bridesmaid's dresses were also something I would have worn and the flowers were so lovely that I made a frantic bid for a centerpiece at the end of the night.
And the band that they had really got the crowd going.

And the food...

Delicious.
I don't remember exactly what each course was but the first was reminiscent of a spring roll but in a much flakier, tastier shell.
The salad was wrapped up in a cucumber lead and came with a grilled mushroom and a toasted slice of baguette topped with an avocado spread.
The main was roasted potatoes and vegetables with chicken and beef.
Desert was two types of fruit sorbet in a sugar cookie-esque bowl with a chocolate dipped bottom.
The wedding cake was pink velvet and we were treated to a late night buffet of mini hotdogs, sliders, fries, and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Everything was delicious.

I just finished watching the newlywed's wedding video for the 10th time... what a beautiful wedding.

I can't thank them enough for letting me be a part of their day and for throwing hands-down the party of the summer.
I wish the newlyweds nothing but love and happiness for the rest of their lives.

Hairstyles...Help! Round 2

Round 2.
I kind of told a fib as I definitely have more than 6 hairstyles to showcase today.
But I've already veto-ed some of the styles I posted.
First up:
2 partial updos for your consideration
Partial updo 1:
Partial updo 2 (I like the glamorous low pony):

...and now back to the updos.

Number 7:

Number 8 (like it but don't love it):

Number 9 (I used the golden power of Veto on this one but will still present it to you):

Number 10 (really like the back of this one):

Number 11 (like the back and front of this one):

So.....thoughts? I think my favourites may still be from Saturday's post.
I'll look for a few more partial updos and then i'll make a final decision.
:)
I'll get back to recipes tomorrow, promise.

Hairstyles.....Help!

The Bachelorette party last night was AMAZING!
So much fun.
Limo, champagne, heels, a free bottle of vodka, and a bunch of fun and beautiful girls.
SO. MUCH. FUN.
In exactly 2 weeks from today, two of my very very best friends will be getting married!
2 weeks!
Yikes!
It reminded me that I have not found a hairstyle for the wedding yet.
So I've been scouring the world of google images all morning. I have 12 so far so today I'll give you the first 6 and I'm going to number them so that you can give me feedback on which one's you like best. And please please please give feedback because I am awful at making decisions.
So Mom, Wendy, Andrea, Jennie.....Mike, Dad, and occasionally John let me know!
Also - I'm torn between a partial updo and a full updo. It's in Jamaica and it's going to close to 40 degrees outside so keep that tucked away.
Ready?

Number 1 (I really like this one, think it's a top 3 contender):
Number 2 (elegance on the elegant Rachel Weisz):

Number 3 (like the top but not so much the super curly bun):

Number 4 (like the wispy aspect of it):

Number 5:

Number 6 (I like this look a lot too, another top 3 contender):

So there's your first round of 6, the next 6 will come on Monday. Then I'll narrow it down to 3 and make my decision. I need to know how long I need my hair cause I have a hair appt on Wednesday the 30th and am getting at the very least a trim, if not a cut.
Tomorrow is Father's Day so if you haven't gotten anything for your father/baby-daddy yet.....
:)
